It is hard to imagine the original NBC Studio Tour, started in 1933, offering so much of so little, as
does the current "NBC Experience" tour. It seems as if NBC has kept busy these last seventy
years collecting scads of tacky television glitz with which to pad this new, thin experience.
The guided tour starts at the NBC History Theater where a Page lightly touches on NBC's early radio
background. Then there is a retrospective/public-relations video hosted by Matt Lauer and Katie Couric.
No surprise. You wouldn't be here if you didn't enjoy watching TV.
Next it's on to the stages, shooting-schedules
permitting. You may visit anywhere from two to
four stages, the homes of shows like Saturday
Night Live, Late Night with Conan O'Brien,
Dateline and NBC Nightly News.
The stages, mostly empty during down times, are
surprisingly small and gloomy without their hosts,
and definitely seem to lose some relevance.
